Lecture Session 8 - The internet and cyber-democracy

What is democracy?
We have the people who rule the place in a political sense and their opinion.

How is media affecting democracy?
We have learnt that it is through media we know what is going around in a country and who to vote for or against. We know when there is an election or when a rule has been implemented. The common people have depended so much over the media, that they are forgetting that the media again is being controlled by few people and not everything they represent may be true. The true democracy is based on mass opinion media has the power to manipulate this situation. To resolve this we have multiple sources of media or information. A scandal of a Hollywood star has reached and multiplied over 6, 00,000 time in a single day. That is where the internet comes in. a medium that has a world wide source of information. If we need to find out accurate information it could be done by comparing it from multiple sources.

We have had a topic on free speech and censorship
An argument which could not be resolved on perfect sense, there are both good and bad on both sides. Pornography on the internet cannot be controlled because of this and again we could not get accurate information that is not controlled by anyone.

Finally I would opine that internet is one medium that could achieve a perfect democracy. Not only regional but also globally.
